  2. THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS • Ninety days before the charter renewal date, the • professional Scouter renews the annual charter • agreement with the executive officer of the chartered organization. During the visit, they: • Discuss the success and needs of the unit. • Review the role of the charted organization and • the local council. • Consider key unit personnel to determine • replacements,additions, and recognition.

  3. Sixty days before the charter renewal date: The Unit Commissioner and unit committee conduct a membership inventory of youth and adults. Contacts or visits should be made to inactive youth and adults. Every effort should be made to recruit additional youth and adults so the unit re registers with no loss in membership.   4. Forty-five days before the charter renewal date. The Unit Commissioner and unit committee chairman conduct the charter renewal meeting, which includes identifying youth and adults to re-register, completing forms, and collecting fees. The executive officer of the chartered organization or the chartered organization representative approves all volunteers and the unit leader certifies the youth to be registered. Participants of this meeting should include the Commissioner, Chartered Organization Representative, Executive Officer of the chartered organization, Unit Leader, and all other unit volunteers.

  5. Fifteen days before the charter renewal date: The Unit Commissioner submits the complete charter renewal application to the council service center. Thirty days after charter renewal: A formal charter presentation is conducted. The Unit Commissioner should make the formal presentation to the Troop and the Troop, in turn, present the charter the their sponsor organization.

  6. The Quality Unit requirements are different for the Cub Scout Pack, the Boy Scout Troop, the Varsity Scout Team, and the Venturing Crew/Ship. The requirements sometimes change slightly from year to year. CUB SCOUT PACK 2000 National Quality Unit Award 1. Training* The Cubmaster and at least 50% of den leaders and Webelos den leaders will complete Fast Start and basic Training for their current position. 2. Two-Deep Leadership* We will have one or more registered, trained, and active assistant Cubmasters. One registered adult is assigned the responsibility for Youth Protection training. 3. Pack Meetings We will hold a minimum of nine pack meetings a year, and the pack will earn the National Summertime Pack Award. 4. Tiger Cubs We will have a Tiger Cub group affiliated with our pack. 5. Service Project We will conduct a service project annually, preferably for the chartered organization or the community.

  7. 6. Advancement 70% or more of our Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts will advance a rank, or we will have a 10% increase over a year ago. Approved rank advancements for this recognition include Bobcat, Wolf Cub Scout, Bear Cub Scout, Webelos Scout, and Arrow of Light. 7. Boys' Life A subscription of Boys' Life will go into the homes of all our Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts, or we will have a 10% increase over a year ago. 8. Membership We will renew our charter with an equal or greater number of youth registered over a year ago. 9. Outdoor Activities* The Cub Scout pack will participate in one or more of the following experiences: Cub Scout day camp, resident camp, family camp, Webelos den overnighter(s) and/or other activities conducted or approved by the local council. 10. On-Time Charter Renewal* The pack will complete its charter renewal before its current charter expires. * Indicates required items.

  8. The following is a list of the 10 commitments for attaining Quality Unit status. While every unit's ultimate goal should be to complete all ten, a unit must achieve at least six of the ten items, including each of four starred (*) items, to qualify for the award. BOY SCOUT TROOP 2000 National Quality Unit Award 1. Training* The Scoutmaster will complete Boy Scout Leader Fast Start and Scoutmaster Fundamentals training. 2. Two-Deep Leadership* We will have one or more assistant Scoutmasters registered, trained, and active. One registered adult is assigned responsibility for Youth Protection training. 3. Planned Program Our troop will conduct an annual program planning conference, publish an annual troop program calendar, and present it to parents at a family activity. 4. Service Project Our troop will conduct a service project annually, preferably for the chartered organization or the community.

  9. 5. Advancement Sixty percent or more of our Boy Scouts will advance a rank, or we will have a 10 percent increase in total rank advancement over a year ago. Approved rank advancement for this recognition include Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. 6. Boys' Life Fifty percent or more of our Boy Scout members will subscribe to Boys’ Life magazine, or we will have a 10 percent increase over last year. 7. Outdoor Activities* The troop will conduct six highlight activities (such as hikes, campouts, trips, tours, etc.) and attend a Boy Scouts of America long-term camp. 8. Membership We will renew our charter with an equal or greater number of youth registered over a year ago. 9. Patrol Method We will conduct Troop Junior Leader Training as outlined in the Scoutmaster Handbook and hold monthly patrol leaders' council meetings. 10. On-Time Charter Renewal* The troop will complete its charter renewal before its current charter expires. * Indicates required items.
