  2. Campus Life @ USP Campus Life is committed to creating a vibrant Living and Learning environmentfor our students and their families across all USP campuses in the South Pacific. The section is dedicated to enhancing the growth of students to reach their full potential by providing rich learning opportunities through programs, services and facilities. Campus Life Section promotes a Safe, Clean and Green campus environment as well as a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff and their families that fosters cross cultural understanding and personal development, an engaged community, and a sense of personal connection to USP as part of our commitment to the University's emphasis on Priority Area 2 of USP Strategic Plan 2010-2012. Campus Life @ USP The Campus Life Section is designed to assist USP in value adding to the student experience by providing opportunities that will bring its students, staff and their families together and creating a strong USP community. In an attempt to build increased sense of Family, we have introduced a range of exciting non-sporting activities that will be open to all enrolled USP students, staff and their families and will include Pacific Village Market Days @USP,Movies under the Stars, Family Day, Open Mic series; and a host of community focused events – Blood Drives; Cancer appeals etc . Student and Staff Centered – Student and Staff Focused

Counselling Services USP provides an approachable, professional and confidential counselling service for all USP students, with the following assistance provided by qualified counselling staff. • Academic problems • Difficult decisions: about study, career or personal life • Relationship difficulties • Your Mood/Mental State • Personal Crisis • Job Search

  5. Cont. Counselling Services • Work closely with USPSA ,other sections of University and stakeholders • Peer Educator Programme – Reproductive Health – STI focus • Facilitate workshops for: • Hall’s Married students on domestic violence and conflict resolution • Job seeking skills - writing good job application letters, winning curriculum vitae and successful interview skills. The workshops were held over 4 days • Developing online Counselling services so students at other • campuses can access professional counselling

  6. Health and Wellness Services – Laucala USP offers Health and Wellness services for USP students. These services include: • On site Health and Wellness Centre • Access to Male and Female Doctors and Nursing • staff who provide confidential health advice and • treatment • Access to existing Student Medical Care Scheme • Open Hours • During Semester - Monday to Friday 8am-7pm • Nurses start at 8am and Doctor starts at 9am • Semester Breaks- Monday to Thursday 8am - 4.30pm • Friday: 8am - 4pm • Weekends and Holidays : CLOSED

Accommodation Services - Residential Halls USP offers ‘on campus’ accommodation for 870 students providing a unique opportunity for students to live within a diverse residential student population A new 144 bed Hall was completed in 2011 and has fully occupancy. Residential students @ USP are supported by Residential Officers who provide services, supervision, guidance and advice. We have students selected as Residential Assistants to live among and provide assistance to all USP students who live on campus

  9. Laucala Sports & Recreational Services USP Fitness Centre has a wide range of equipment that caters for every fitness need. We have a hydraulic circuit area that combines cardio & resistance training,  cardio machines, comprehensive free weights equipments; cross trainers; treadmills and specialized software for assessing and planning exercise programs. • Students studying @ USP have access to: • a well equipped fitness centre ( limited hrs 5am-7am and 3.30pm • 9pm Mon - Wed) • gymnasium • swimming pool • tennis courts • squash court and sporting fields

Laucala Sports & Recreational Services Students studying at USP have access to a wide range of recreational and sporting opportunities, including rugby, soccer, netball, volleyball, beach volleyball; touch rugby, basketball, paddling, table tennis and tennis. We also have a Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do for students interested in self defense & Martial Arts; Tennis club; - New clubs include Bodybuilding and Boxing We understand that physical activity and recreation complement students’ academic endeavours and enhance the University experience.

  11. Laucala Sports & Recreational Services Student “Wot Eva Bar” The Wot Eva Bar is located near the Fitness Centre and provides students with a venue to relax and socialise in a safe, secure environment. ENTRY ONLY BY PRESENTATION OF USP ID CARD

New Developments in Campus Life : 2011 – Present • Establishment of additional service departments - • ORIENTATION – new workshops ( straight talk) • WELFARE • CAREER CENTRE • DISABILITY CENTRE • ACTIVITIES - staffing, Family Days, Pacific Market Days, Blood Drives, Litter sweeps, USP Open Mic; Movie Nights – • Improved services • SECURITY • COUNSELLING – new staff – online counselling • HEALTH & WELLNESS – New workshops – Cancer/ STI/ Family planning • SPORTS – additional sports,

Disability Inclusive @ USP • Development of USP Disability Inclusiveness Plan and Policy • USP Strategic Plan 2010-2012, Priority Area 2 | Student Support is a key area where Disability inclusiveness can be progressed. • The USP Strategic Plan 2013-2018 • The University will, prior to this Strategic Plan, identify and address the specific issues and barriers to Disability Inclusiveness, in particular the physical and administrative barriers that currently exist on all USP campuses and centres in the region Key areas that will be addressed are: physical space and construction issues; assistive technologies; accurate data collection; awareness and training programmes for staff and students; the appointment of a Disability Services Coordinator from 2013 at the Laucala campus and identification and training of a staff member on each campus who can serve as a disability resource contact. Resourcing has been identified in the resource plan to drive disability services, construction, adaptation and inclusiveness across all Campuses and Centres of USP ( Refer to Disability Inclusive Presentation)

New Developments in Campus Life : 2011 – Present • Improved facilities in 2012 • improving recreational study spaces for all students • a new safe undercover walkway from the Bus bay to AusAID lecture building, • construction of 6 study bures, • construction of the new student bar space • Upgrading of tennis courts and expansion of fitness centre • other improved amenities: picnic tables, new disability accessible toilets and change rooms at Vaturara Park. The above Campus Life Building projects are built to ensure disability inclusiveness.

Campus Life Events (Building a sense of USP FAMILY amongst its students, staff and their families) In 2012, USP is delivering a range of non-sporting events which will in part assist in developing a greater USP and a Pacific consciousness, as well as provide opportunities that will bring USP students, staff and their families together. Some examples include USP Pacific Market Day; Family Day ;Movies under the Stars; and Open Mic Series

Campus Life Open Mic Concept • USP Campus Life Open Mic concept helps to identify, develop and nurture the musical talents of our Staff and Students at the University. • Students and staff are mentored and guided by none other than our very own composer, singer, performer, the very famous Laisa Vulakoro. • USP is about opportunities and experiences experiences in and outside the lecture room room

  17. Security Services USP provides its students with a campus environment which is safe and secure. We have a 24 hour operation that is committed to achieving safety, and security all USP campuses. USP security works closely with the USP and the Police community to try and achieve a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning. Need to ensure that students and staff take responsibility for their security as far as possible.
