  3. Existing Facility • Too small to handle the # of homeless animals that need us. • In 2008 the PHS provided a home to 1,154 animals while they awaited their forever family

  4. Existing Facility • Lacks separation areas for incoming animals and those awaiting adoption • Healthy animals can become sick

  5. Existing Facility Desperately needs basic upgrades to make it safe and efficient for the animals and their caretakers Facility problems are beyond repair stage, major renovation is necessary

  6. Existing Facility Our valuable time caring for animals is diminished when we have to focus on building maintenance

The Process: • Phase 1 • Building: Purchased adjacent property • Fundraising: Launched Capital Campaign & raised $250k in gifts, pledges and donated services • Phase 2 • Performed rigorous selection process -> Gymo • Developed healthy, safe design for Shelter animals and their caretakers • Visited other facilities • Researched HSUS design standards

  11. The Results The size of the Shelter after construction will be 5,861 sq. ft. which includes 3,823 sq. ft. of new construction and 2,038 sq. ft. of renovated space.

New Facility Facts • 18 new dog kennels; renovation of 19 kennels • 3 new puppy and kitten kennels; renovation of existing nursery • 1 new nursing mother and puppy kennel • New facilities for adoptable male and female cats • New dog and cat isolation rooms to keep potentially ill and healthy animals separated • New animal intake and screening room • New cold storage area • New administrative areas such as an educational training room, renovated reception area, and staff office • New outdoor dog exercise area

  14. Building Budget & Schedule • Estimated Project Cost is $750,000 • Ideally, construction will be completed by 12/31/09 • How far we get and how fast we get there is contingent on how much we raise in Phase 2

  15. Phase 1 Fundraising Highlights Armani Says Thanks! (adopted in 2008) Spike Says Thanks (Adopted in 1992) • Executed several successful events including Bubblemania, Cruisin’ for Critters, and Angelo’s Charity Benefit Dinners • Began fundraising for endowment. Big thanks to Dr. Robert Shaw and St. Lawrence Radiology!

Phase 1 Fundraising Highlights • Raised $250k! • Received major gifts from Pinto Family, Estate of Rebecca Lynch, Jason & Tracy Adle, Dr. Jose & Gina Lazardi , & Two grants • In kind donations from Jim Sheehan, 99 Hits, WWNY, Channel 10 News, Courier Observer, NCTW, Grudowski family • Over 500 contributors have helped us get this far! NattyBumppo Says Thanks! (adopted & hired in 2008)

  21. Next Steps • Building: V/O Potsdam Planning Board • Building: Prepare construction bid documents • Fundraising: The Board will be working hard to raise $250k by 6/30/09. We are encouraged by all those who are jumping in to help us!
