  2. Through Grassroots Action We Seek: • 80% reduction in GHG emissions of 1990 levels by 2050 • Accomplished through: • Phase out of fossil fuels • Phase in of renewable sources and energy efficiency

  3. Key Principles • Sustainable use • Minimize energy sources with dangerous byproducts • Decentralize energy production • Local control • Avoid lock-in

  4. Phasing Out Fossil Fuels • Full enforcement of safety and environmental laws regulating coal mining • Institute a 5-year moratorium on new coal-fired power plants • Increase CAFÉ standards to 40 mpg by 2010 and 55 mpg by 2020 • Retire the nuclear fleet
