Who We Are. Movimondo is an Italian NGO founded in 1971 and working in Lebanon since 1999 with funds mainly from the European Commission, The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various UN Agencies. What We Are Doing. Movimondo is currently implementing three projects in Lebanon:

  1. Who We Are Movimondo is an Italian NGO founded in 1971 and working in Lebanon since 1999 with funds mainly from the European Commission, The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various UN Agencies

What We Are Doing Movimondo is currently implementing three projects in Lebanon: • “Recovery and strengthening of income-generating production activities in favour of Chouwaghir and Hermel population in the North of Bekaa Valley” – funded by ROSS Emergency Program of Italian Cooperation • “Environmental and productive recovery of the livestock sector in Tyre Qaza” (ROSS/L06-A1319) - funded by ROSS Emergency Program of Italian Cooperation • “Training and Technical Support to Psychosocial Staff, Teachers and Families, and Self-help Adolescents Workshops” – funded by Unicef

The Agriculture Project in North Bekaa • The project in North Bekaa – Hermel and Chouwaghir - was identified soon after the 2006 conflict • After approval and funding from ROSS Emergency Program of Italian Cooperation, the project started in April 2007 and will end in March 2008 • Project General Objective is to contribute to the return of local population through the improvement of social, economic and environmental conditions of Hermel area • Project Specific Objective is to restore three agricultural sectors: bee-keeping, cattle breeding, and fish culture

Project Main Components 1 Technical assistance to trout breeders by supporting the local Ministry of Agriculture branch in terms of training (agricultural extension and trout breeding) and equipment (field equipment to Hermel branch as ph-meter, oxygen meter, office equipment and Multi-parameter meter to Anjar branch) 2 Support to milk producers in terms of extension, veterinary services, training and artificial insemination 3 Support to bee-keepers in terms of training (queens production; royal jelly and propolis production) and equipment (hives, levers, suits, honey extraction and packaging)

  5. Main Activities: Technical Assistance to Trout Breeders • Advanced Theoretical and Practical Training to 15 Technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture (completed) • Monitoring and supporting trout breeders through a specifically created field team of MoA staff (on going) • Technical support and equipment to the Hermel MoA Hatchery and Anjar main branch (completed) • Trout Market research (to be implemented) • Environmental Impact Assessment (on going) • Organization of meetings between trout breeders (on going)

  6. Main Activities: Support to Milk Producers • Local technical assistance and training to farmers on: milk quality, diseases prevention and cattle feeding (to be implemented) • Hoof-care training and provision of hoof-care services (on going) • Provision of medicines and veterinary services (on going) • Provision of cattle feed (to be implemented) • Artificial insemination training (to be implemented) • Provision of artificial insemination services (to be implemented) • Technical assistance and training on milk processing (to be implemented)

  7. Main Activities: Support to Bee-keepers • Provision of technical assistance and training to bee-keepers on: queens’ production, propolis and royal jelly production (first session completed – second session planned in March 2008) • Provision to bee-keepers of anti-varroa pesticide and training on its use (completed) • Provision to bee-keepers of equipment (hives, levers, suits etc.) (on going) • Preparation and distribution of theoretical and practical information materials to bee-keepers and their Associations and Cooperatives (on going) • Provision of honey extraction equipment to bee-keepers’ Cooperatives (to be implemented) • Provision of marketing equipment (to be implemented)
