  2. Who’s Eligible • Continuing UCLA students • Graduate Students- a letter is required from department indicating program required towards degree. • Financial aid is available for only one summer program per academic year. UCLA Financial Aid Office

  3. Application Deadlines • 2014-15 FAFSA – Any applications submitted after 3/2 will not receive UNIVERSITY GRANT, or the Perkins Loan. (if eligible) • Summer Travel Financial Aid Application- Available March 1 - April 4th *Late applicants can only apply for Private Loans. UCLA Financial Aid Office

  12. Processing of Aid • If the FAO is requesting additional documentation, you will be notified via MYUCLA in/after April 2014. • Additional information & FAFSA corrections must be done before awarding. UCLA Financial Aid Office

Summer Aid Grants if Eligible: • Pell Grant (if eligible) based on program units • University Grant (if eligible) based on program units Loans(Loans will be awarded for 14-15 academic year first) • Direct Subsidized Loan (no interest while in-school) • Direct Unsubsidized Loan (interest from day ofdisbursement) • Parent PLUS Loan (your parents apply for this loan) • Private Loans (based on credit) UCLA Financial Aid Office

  14. Summer Aid (example) John submitted the FAFSA (on time) and his expected family contribution (EFC) is $0. He plans on attending the History program in Spain at 8 units. ** Program Budget****Aid Package** Program fee $5800 University Grant $1100 Airfare $1300 Pell Grant (based on EFC) $941 Misc $1450 LOANS $6509 Total est. cost $8550 *If John successfully completes 199 course, the Pell Grant will increase from ½ time to full time (12+ units) and receive an additional $941 in Pell grant & possible loan reduction. The Summer eFAN • Awarding will begin mid-May, and eFAN’s will be released in June. • Please review and follow instructions on your eFAN! • First time loan borrowers MUST complete a Master Promissory Note and a Loan Debt Management Session before loans are disbursed. cont. The Summer eFAN • Parent PLUS Loans: This is a loan that YOUR PARENTS must apply for, please read the eFAN for instructions! *If your parents will not apply for the Parent PLUS Loan, you can apply for a Private Loan. • Private Loans: This is a loan based on credit, and you may require a co-signer. • YOU MUST ACCEPT THE LOANS BEFORE YOUR PROGRAM ENDS!! If you try to apply after you return, the loan offer is no longer valid. NO EXCEPTION!

  17. Will Summer Aid effect the Academic Year? If you attend summer school, or any summer program we will award you for the academic year first. Summer GRANTS will not reduce the amount of grants for the academic year. UCLA Financial Aid Office

Summer Disbursement • Financial Aid should disburse 5-10 days before your program start date, however the earliest disbursement for summer is 6/13/14. • YOU MUST sign up for Bruin Direct to receive your refund while abroad. • There is NO financial aid advance for airfare, or travel expenses.
