Why National Technology Platforms? • Promote country in Europe and faster integration into European construction world • Set up links with regional and local stakeholders • Improve the involvement of SMEs (drivers of innovation) • Mobilize the construction sector towards innovations • Define better a complete list of research needs • Identify and involve national/regional research programmes • Identify the gaps between national & EU regulations/policies that will enhance innovation • Identify and enhance national financial support schemes • Better access to the international projects, partners and founds (FP6, FP7, JETI, …)

Role of National Technology Platforms • Become transparent in goals, approaches, research agenda’s, etc., for the different countries in order to learn from each other and spot points of potential cooperation • Activate direct participation in the Focus Area’s of the ECTP • Promote NTP’s in other EU countries (extend the network to possibly all EU member states) • Modelling EU regulations and policy’s to drive innovation • Contribution to / dissemination of ECTP deliverables • Promotion of European and National research projects on construction

NTPs – what they can expect from ECTP? • Support in building the NTP • Link and contact with other NTPs • Attendance in the workgroups for the FA • Member Access • Partner for FP6, FP7, JETI, ... • Coordination • Propagate results • Allow new member countries to integrate faster into European construction world

NTP – a national initiative • ECTP links all NTP’s but they have freedom for structure, • areas of activities, programs, etc. • There are only three main conditions for NTP’s working: • industry leadership • input and output for ECTP deliverables (Vision, SRA) • national representations (involvement of all stakeholders)

Steps in launching NTP • Choosing the leader of the NTP and its initiative group. • Definition of the goals of the NTP: generally NTP is responsible for the creation the construction development strategy. • Definition of the structure of NTP’s. • Definition of the membership of the different bodies (High Level Group – HLG, Support/Management Group – SG/MG, Focus Areas – FAs and other groups). • Definition and approval of the FA’s as well as choosing its leaders: actually there are 7 FA’s in ECTP (Underground construction, Cities and Buildings, Quality of Life, Materials, Networks, Cultural Heritage, Processes and ICTs). • Choosing the member of the NTP to represent its interests in ECTP
