Healthy Way LA (HWLA) – Foundation for Health Reform • HWLA is a foundation for health reform preparation in Los Angeles County • HWLA provides comprehensive health care services; not health insurance • Many, but not all, uninsured adult residents are eligible for HWLA • Los Angeles County resident • Documented citizenship or permanent legal resident (5 years) • Income at or below 133% FPL annually ($15,282 for 1 person) • 19 – 64 years old • Ineligible for Medi-Cal (including pregnant women)

Healthy Way LA (HWLA) – The Gateway to Medi-Cal • Approx. 246,000 uninsured adults are enrolled in HWLA • HWLA members will automatically be enrolled into Medi-Cal on January 1, 2014 • DHS two-pronged strategy: • Continued enrollment into HWLA • Seamless transition to Medi-Cal (health insurance) Learn more and where to enroll at www.ladhs.org/hwla

  5. HWLA: Our Transition to Medi-Cal • Partnership with Department of Public and Social Services: • Eligibility and Enrollment • Renewals • Outreach begins in August!

Not Eligible for Medi-Cal or Covered California • Federal health reform does not extend health insurance to everyone in the United States • Those not eligible include undocumented persons, those with religious exemptions, those incarcerated etc. • If a person is not eligible for health insurance, they can still receive health care services throughout the County: • Community health centers and clinics • Department of Health Services hospitals and clinics • Local hospitals (private & public) for emergency care
