  8. LLitany of the Circle

  9. Every part of this earth is sacred. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore.

  10. Every mist in the dark woods, Every clearing and humming insect is holy

  11. The rocky crest, the juices of the meadow, the beasts and all the people, All belong to the same family.

  12. Teach your children that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.

  13. The water’s murmur is the voice of our father’s father. We are part of the earth, and the earth is part of us.

  14. The rivers are our brothers; they quench our thirst. The perfumed flowers are our sisters.

  15. The air is precious. For all of us share the same breath.

  16. The wind that gave our grandparents breath also receives their last sigh. The wind that gave our children the spirit of life.

  17. This we know, the earth does not belong to us. We belong to the earth.

  18. This we know, all things are connected. Our God is the same God, whose compassion is equal for all.

  19. Our Father

  20. Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all things, hear me. I come to you as one of your many children. I am small and weak, I need your strength and your wisdom. May I walk in beauty. May my eyes ever behold the glorious sunrise, and may they see as much mystery in your small miracles as in your great ones.

  21. Make my hands respect the things you have created, and my ears sharp enough to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children, the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Make me strong, not to overcome my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy: myself. Make me ever ready to come to you with pure hands and straight eyes, so that when my life fades as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you and stand before you, without shame.
