  • Reuse – use the same things as often as you can.
  • Recycle – find lots of new ways to use old things.
  • Every drop of water counts!

Introduction

use of taps

Turn off tap after washing your hands.

  • Use signs near taps to tell others how to use them correctly.
  • Wash paint brushes in an empty container of water instead of under a running tap.
  • Report any leaking taps around the school to a teacher.

Use of taps

water use on school grounds

Water only when needed.

  • Follow water restrictions to water gardens and lawns.
  • Plant native plants.
  • Use a watering can where possible.
  • Keep pools covered.
  • Do not water the school ground during the heat of the day – instead do it in the morning or evening.
  • Waterwise Checklist: Schools and Education Facilities –

Water use on school grounds

water use in the canteen

Wash fruit and vegetables in a container or half filled sink instead of under running water.

  • Only use the dishwasher when full.
  • Only use running water for a final rinse – NOT to clean.
  • Use a sink drainer to stop food scraps from going down the drain and needing a plumber to fix.
  • Dry brush and spot clean the floors as often as you can.
