  1. Autobiography Project 8th Grade Spencerville Schools Mrs. Belton’s Classes

  2. Autobiography Writing • Non-fiction writing • About you ME ( & Jillian) • We write personal non-fiction — essays, memoir and autobiography — not to muse over how wonderful or awful our lives are, but to put down our own small, individual truth.

  3. Characteristics • True • Personal • Detailed • Introspective • Emotional • Deep and honest

  4. Parts of the Project • Dedication • “I dedicate this book to my mother because she is the one who brought me into this world and has stood by my side.”

  5. Parts of the Project • Letter from someone important • You will write friendly letter of request to someone important in your life, asking them to write a letter to you explaining why they think you are a special person.

  6. Parts of the Project • Acrostic Poem • This acrostic poem will include your first and last names.

  7. Parts of the Project • Generations • You will be receiving a worksheet that shows the difference between generations. Make time to interview your parents and grandparents for their part of this worksheet.

  8. Parts of the Project • Family Tree On this page, you will research the members of your family – your mom’s and your dad’s sides, then document names.

  9. Parts of the Project • Pictures • You will include 10 pictures, or more to enhance your project. These can be friends, family, you, etc.

  10. Parts of the Project • Chapter Covers Sample Scrapbook Paper • Your options are to create these on Print Shop, or hand-make using scrapbooking materials, stickers, stamps, etc. It must state the chapter # and the title of the chapter

  11. Parts of the Project • Individual Chapters • All final writings must be typed, single-spaced, size 14 font in Times New Roman font. They must all be in black ink with one inch margins. All Chapters must have a rough draft and a Proofreading worksheet presented for grading.

  12. Writing With Options Autobiographical Prompt Alternate prompts What piece of junk are you keeping? Open the 'junk' drawer in your life...it's probably in your kitchen, your garage or your desk. Take one item out of it that's been there for a long time. Write a piece that explains why you haven't thrown the item away yet. • Write about the day you were born using the information in your baby book, or from interviews with your mom, dad, Grandma and/or Grandpa. Include information such as: where I got my name, what the weather was like, who was there, emotions my family felt, etc.

  13. Basic Information • 900 point project • Need to have a 3-ring binder with a clear insert-ready cover • Bring in 25 clear plastic protector sheets.

  14. Basic Information • You will never be expected to write about anything that is uncomfortable or negative for you. There will always be an option given.
