  3. MICAH CHAPTER 3 - THREE UNITS The theme is “judgment” - “justice” 3:1-4, “to know judgment” (3:1) 3:5-8, “and of judgment” (3:8) 3:9-12, “that abhor judgment” (3:9)

  4. The Outline for Micah 3:1-4 • I. THE ADDRESS/APPEAL TO THE “HEADS” (3:1) • II. THE ACCUSATION - they do not maintain justice (3:2-3) • A. Their Charge - To know and keep the Law (3:1) • B. Their Character - Their hearts are evil (3:2) • C. Their Conduct - They act like cannibals (3:2-3) • III. THE APPROPRIATE SENTENCE - God will not listen to them or look at them (3:4)

Their Persecution of the Poor and/or Pure • Micah 3:5, • Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets • that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

The Judgment of Disgrace • Micah 3:6, • Therefore night shall be unto you, • that ye shall not have a vision; • and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, • and the day shall be dark over them.

They Build by Corruption • Micah 3:9, • Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.

The Problem of Presumption • Micah 3:11, • The heads thereof judge for reward, • and the priests thereof teach for hire, • and the prophets thereof divine for money: • yet will they lean upon the LORD, • and say, Is not the LORD among us? • none evil can come upon us.

  15. Their Presumption! • They presumed upon God’s grace! • They presumed upon God’s power! • They presumed upon God’s promises! • They presumed upon God’s holiness! • They presumed upon God’s justice!

  16. VI. THE PROPHET MICAH’S CONCLUSION: JERUSALEM BEING DESTROYED • A. The Cause for the Destruction • B. The Comprehensive Nature of the Destruction • Micah 3:12, • Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, • and the mountain of the house • as the high places of the forest.

  17. Invitation to seek God’s “pardon” Dear God, I now repent of my sins and lean upon Your Son for salvation. Please “pardon” all of my sin. Help me to have a profession of faith that is real and that leads to good works! I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
