  1. Year 7 Algebra Task- exemplar for your layout of the report. Significant Concept: Numerical patterns can be geometric or arithmetic based and predicting the continuation of the number sequence can be done through the creation of a formula Unit Question: How can I find the nth number? AOI: Environment. Picket fence task: Duplicate the picket fence the currently surrounds the nursery playground and reproduce this design adjacent to the sports field, on the far side of the track. The picket fence design must remain identical. My method ( Communication in mathematics-Criteria C) How did you do this task? What steps did you take? Write this as an overall summary. Firstly my partner worked out how long was the 1st section and worked our how many section of picket fence would be needed for along the track. Now we need to start to measure along the track and we checked 2 time. The first time to check we had 95.15m and the second time we measure we had 95.30m. Then we tried to round it and we got 95.25m. The reason why we made to 95.25m is so that we could do it easier. The measurements were 95.15m&95.30 I have chosen to round these measurements off to 95.25m My equation to calculate how many sections required was as follows. 95.25m÷2.05m=46.5 This meant that 46.5 sections would be needed. I then decided to have exactly 46 and the 0.5 we would have a gate and the gate would have 1 more upright.

  2. ( Investigating patterns Criteria B) To calculate the number of Pickets ( p) , Uprights (u) and Horizontal pieces (h) we looked carefully at the nursery picket fence and found out that most sections contained exactly …….. pickets, ……… horizontals and …………….. Upright support posts. To assist us with our rules we needed to create tables . Our rules are: p=16s+2 U= 14s+1 H= 2s+1

  3. My method ( Communication in mathematics-Criteria C –(second part of this) We needed to substitute … for S into the three equations. ( the setting out of this will be discussed in class.) p=16s+2 =46×16+2 =736+2 P=738 So 745 pickets is required. H=2s+1 =2x46+1 H=93 So 93 horizontals is required U= 14s+1 =14x46+1 =645 so 645 uprights is required. TOTAL MATERIALS: 738 PICKETS; 93 HORIZONTALS; 645UPRIGHTS.

  4. My reflection( reflection in mathematics Criteria D) My method was successful because we made to the number that we could dived easily so that we know how many section do we need. My biggest challenge was measuring and dividing to sections. I think my partner and my method was good. We kind of followed using what Mr. Mark told us. We made a table of the fences in one section and we were very easy to make a algebra rule. Firstly my partner and I measured twice because we thought we have to double check in case so that we are bit accurate than measuring once. I think we thought we need to be a bit more accurate so that is the reason why we checked twice. We ensure on accuracy by double checking everything what do we do. The result of our length of the field was 95.15m and the length of one section of the picket fence was 2.02m. Now we divide 95.15m by 2.05m and the result was 46.5. I thought 46 was a good number but there was 0.5 so my partner and I decided that the 0.5 is going to be the gate so we have to add more fences. This was the only method that my partner and I could get. I think this was a better than rounding up to 47. Reflection of work with my partner ( ATL on collaboration) In future I would chose to work collaboratively/independently –why? why not? In future I would choose to work collaboratively because I can discuss and discussing is part of learning and when some one in the team get sick or cant come to the meeting it is fine because other team mate can work on it.
