  1. Holly Jolly Heat Transfer

  2. Have you ever had trouble with your favorite candy melting before you got to eat it?

  3. Question: Can you slow down heat transfer from your body to a Hershey Kiss?

  4. Procedure: • Take two Hershey Kisses. • Save one for later. • You have 10 minutes to create an insulating pouch for your Hershey’s Kiss. • Also, you’ll be competing with a neighbor to see who can keep the most heat out with your design.

  5. Your insulating pouch must still be able to fit in your pocket. It has to fit directly around one of your Hershey’s kisses.

  6. Use the materials available to create your insulating pouch: • plates • paper • cotton balls • foil • old towels • staples • tape

  7. Place both Kisses in your pockets for the next 15 minutes. We’ll see how well your insulated kiss holds up against your body heat as we compare both kisses.

  8. Bridge to the North Pole!

  9. Question: Can we make chocolate chips fall off the foil bridge and clear the way for Santa’s sleigh?

  10. Materials: • Two jars • Folded foil • Chocolate chips • Nutella • Candle • Matches

  11. Procedure: • “Glue” the chocolate to the bridge with nutella. • Place the bridge between the two jars. • Light the candle. • Watch what happens.

  12. Results: • Create a diagram explaining what happened in this experiment. • Be sure to use good science vocabulary in your explanation.

  13. Hershey Pocket Results Create a “t” chart. Draw and explain what happened to each kiss.
