  1. Workshop • Structuring an argument • Tuesday, LA 342 • 4:10 PM – 5:10 PM

  2. Group presentation • To your audience - not to me • Everybody participates • Handouts & Additional materials • Powerpoint and images to supplement - not replace - your presentation • Group turns in copies of sources plus a single-page bibliography - 6 sources • I am open to other media!

  3. Research - Sources • Google/Google Scholar • NAU Cline Library Portals: • Research resources -> Find articles & research info • Search, by title, more listings Search - > Webfeat searches ALL or you can choose which database to search manually.

  4. Structure - The handout plus… • “Hook” that catches audience’s attention • Introductory facts tailored to argument/audience • Thesis/claim that you will argue- know your supporting arguments for this claim • Distinct section for each idea that supports your thesis/claim w/ EPL appeals, counter-arguments, logic, stats, etc. • Closing - what will result from accepting/rejecting this argument - the bigger picture.

  5. Homework • Read Gloria Anzaldua • Website: Look for a site that has an argument/theme/idea relating to Anzaldua’s argument, etc. • Do basic rhetorical analysis of the site and the article, outlining connections between the two
