Infants on the CACFP Claiming infants (0-12 months) is optional for agencies BUT at least one type of iron-fortified infant formula and infant foods must still be offered to all infants To claim a meal the infant must be offered all the required components AND Proper documentation must be maintained in order for the infant meals to be eligible for reimbursement

Reimbursable meals for Birth through 3 months Infant meal/snack requires ONLY breast milk or IFIF Claim (Regardless of who supplies the IFIF) The policy recognizes the non-food related cost of serving infants by allowing reimbursement for meals containing only breast milk or infant formula, whether supplied by the caregiver or by the parent.

11. Claiming Infant Meals Scenario 1: 9 month old infant The parent/guardian provides breastmilk or iron fortified infant formula (IFIF) and the center provides at least one other component at breakfast, lunch, or supper. Is this a claimable meal? YES
12. Claiming Infant Meals Scenario 2: 8 month old infant The parent/guardian provides breastmilk/IFIF and all solid components. Is this a claimable meal? NO
13. Claiming Infant Meals Scenario 3: 6 month old infant eating solid foods The mother breastfeeds the child at the center for breakfast and the child care center also feeds the infant solid food supplied by the center. Is this a claimable meal? YES
14. Claiming Infant Meals Scenario 4: 2 month old infant Mother came to the center to breastfeed her infant. Is this a claimable meal? NO
15. Claiming Infant Meals Scenario 5: 11 month old infant At breakfast, infant is not eating iron-fortified infant cereal per parents request Infant receives center-purchased formula, fruit and another grain/bread item (pancakes, adult cereal, toast, etc.) Is this meal claimable? NO
