Grades are placed on an UMSL transcript & credit is awarded. • Register through UMSL AC in August or January (during the year they have the class) • $59 per credit hour currently

  9. Advanced Credit “AC” Courses • Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors have grade requirements to register for the Advanced Credit (but not necessarily to enter the class) • Students can take an AC course & not register for the college credit • Students should contact colleges they may be interested in attending to ensure the college accepts the AC & ask how the credit will be transcribed.

  10. FHN Advanced Credit Courses • Spanish III, IV, & V • French III, IV, & V • German III, IV, & V • AP Calculus (12) • AP Statistics (11, 12) • AP Chemistry (11, 12)

  11. Advanced Placement “AP” Courses • Rigorous college level courses taught at FHN • There is not an “earned grade” prerequisite to register for an AP course • students should consider the rigor of the course prior to registering.

  12. Advanced Placement “AP” Courses • AP exam can be taken in May • If score on the AP exam is sufficient, students can earn college credit or advanced placement at college of choice ($$$ saved!) • Scored on a scale of 1-5, with a 5 being the highest score (5=A, 4=B, etc.) • $89 per exam currently

  13. Advanced Placement “AP” Courses • Students submit their score reports to the college of choice & the college determines if/how much credit is awarded • It is important for students to contact the college of choice to ask about potential credit

  17. When do I register for AP, AC, & Honors courses? • During regular registration each year • January 14th-January 24th this year • Students should have a conversation with current teachers about potential success in an AP course prior to signing up

  18. AP Exams • Students can choose NOT to take the exam at the end of the course if so desired. The exam does not affect the overall grade in the class. • If students choose to take the AP exam, they may be able to exempt from the second semester final for that course • Students must take the exam seriously in order to earn their exemption

  19. How do I register for the AP Exam? • Registration begins in February through the Guidance Office • Fee reductions available for students who qualify for free & reduced lunch program • Students who order an exam & do not take the exam are charged a non-refundable $13 fee • $89--checks should be made-out to FHN

  20. Where are AP exams taken? • Most are taken at FHN • Some students may be sent to FHC or FHH if we have too few of students registered for the exam
