First Hit! • 1955 - unusual musical style, provocative gyrating hips and good looks got him a record deal with RCA Records. • “Heartbreak hotel first number 1 single, and Album release. • Signed a Movie deal with Paramount Pictures • Jan 19th - 1st presidential news conference filmed for TV (Eisenhower) • Hurricane Diane hits the northeast United States, killing 200 and causing over $1 billion in damage • Disneyland opens in California on July 17th • Rosa Parks arrest in Montgomery Alabama sets the American Civil Rights Movement in Motion

  3. 1956 • Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time • Elvis Presley's first movie, "Love Me Tender" opens in New York • Presley is everywhere. Radio, T.V. and silver screen. • Alabama Bus segregation laws declared illegal by US Supreme Court • The Winter Olympic Games are held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy • Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 signed into law on 29th June for the construction of 41,000 miles of interstate highways over a 20-year period

  4. 1957 • Elvis drafted to the Army and serves a year and half in Germany. • Mother dies returns to Memphis and goes back to Germany. • Elvis Presley purchases a mansion in Memphis, Tennessee and calls it Graceland • Meets Priscilla Beaulieu. • Toyota starts selling cars in the US, the first is the ToyopetCrown • Portable Radar Devices Used To Enforce Speed Limits • Martin Luther King Jr heads nationwide resistance to racial segregation and discrimination in the US • Federal Troops sent to Arkansas to enforce anti segregation laws

Kennedy inaugurated as President of the United States • East German Authorities close the border between east and west Berlin and Construction of the Berlin Wall begins. • The first six flags theme parks opens "Six Flags Over Texas" in Arlington, Texas • President John F. Kennedy advises American families to build bomb shelters

Special in (1968) • Battled a weight problem • Was Hospitalized for drugs • Last concert was in June of 1977 in Indianapolis • Died in home of August 1977 in Memphis of use of prescription drugs.
