  1. BTEC Firsts External Assessment: FAQsI&CT (onscreen, on demand) When should learners take the assessment? You will need to ask your Examinations Officer to make ‘test bookings’ when you judge your learners are ready to take the assessment. You should bear in mind when making this decision that these are level 2 assessments, equivalent to GCSE-level in standard. Can Year 9s take the external assessment? As this is a level 2 assessment, we recommend that you do not enter Year 9 learners unless you are confident they are ready to take the test. What are the key dates I need to know about? We’ve listed the assessment opportunities for I&CT on the final slide. Why are these tests offered ‘on demand’?We consulted with BTEC I&CT specialists during the development of the next generation BTEC Firsts, and identified onscreen, on-demand testing as the most appropriate method of assessment. What software do I need to run onscreen tests? You can find the minimum specification information on our website: www.btec.co.uk/externalassessment

  2. BTEC Firsts External Assessment: FAQsI&CT (onscreen, on demand) How much feedback will you give when the results are issued? For onscreen, on-demand testing, we will release test content and grade boundary information once we retire that test versions from the test bank. Until that time, all material is considered 'live‘, which limits the amount of information we can provide to centres. Do we timetable the test – or does Pearson set the dates?Once the onscreen tests are available for your sector, you will be able to run the tests when you choose to. You should ensure you only make test bookings for learners when they are ready to be tested, and that that test environment meets the standards outlined in JCQ guidance for onscreen testing. What do test bookings cost? The first test booking is included in the cost of the registration. We will charge re-sits at £13.50 per unit; late fees do not apply to onscreen tests. Learners cannot re-sit the test until they have received a result from their previous attempt.
