  1. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B AIM: Introduction to “BLENDSHAPES”

  2. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B A Blendshape is exactly that. It will “blend” one version of a model to another. A Blendshape needs to have the same amount of VERTICIES in order to work.

  3. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B The basic way to get started with blend shapes is to go to EDIT/DUPLICATE in Autodesk Maya and make a couple of versions of a polygon model. Move it out of the way so it doesn’t take up the exact same space…

  4. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B

  5. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B If you look close at the previous slide, you will notice that the “expression” of Samantha’s bi-pedal was changed by moving the verticies. Also, I double clicked on the move tool and turned on soft select…

  6. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B By turning on “soft select”, the model (also called a “mesh”) verticies moved a bit more like skin might move on a bi-pedal. You can try blendshapes on any model.

  7. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 B After you make several versions of your model, select them and make sure you are in the ANIMATION subset. Then you can go to CREATE DEFORMERS/BLENDSHAPE.

  8. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 A Lastly, on the INPUT NODE in the Channel box, you will note a BLENDSHAPE option. Right clicking on that will allow you to KEY SELECTED as you move the numeric value from 0 to 1. (or another number)

  9. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 A The next step from this lesson would be to make a connection between the Blendshape node and a Control Curve on a rigged character.

  10. MAYA MONDAY LESSON 2014 A Animation: * to ***** Scene Control: N/A Lighting: N/A Camera Movement: N/A Design: From Previous Unit Marketability: N/A Special: * to **********
