JUNE CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES • Gate City Alumni Chapter • June 18th, 2019 • Welcome to Visitors/New Members • Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting – May 2019 minutes were approved for information only. • Treasurer’s Report- Approved for information only. • President’s Updates – NC A&T students perform at NBTF – National Black Theater Festival – play named “Ruined” on Wed. and Thurs. – costs $28 – date will be announced • Induction of Officers – Officers to stood and were sworn in by Teresa Davis • Committee Reports • Membership - 232 members – membership portal under construction – Be My Guest Program reviewed – CashApp available for members to pay dues • Membership Drive Mixer at Barber Park Event Center 4pm-8pm • Scholarship - Introduced scholarship recipients – Daniel Moore (Gate City 2019 Scholar) and Na’Ziya Poole (Book Scholarship), both attended Dudley High School • Community Service - Message and a Meal at St. James Presbyterian Church, Thanks Helena Bryant for attending • Social - CashAppname provided - $gcaggiealumni • Fundraising - Golf Tournament – 38 hole sponsors – will be held Sat. June 22, 2019 at Barber Park – 42 confirmed players (est. 60 or more) – Willie McCoy request members pay hole sponsor money – Action Items: volunteers, snack items for golfers goodie bags, etc) • Finance – no report given • Student Engagement & Recruitment - New Student Send Off to be held on July 27th, 2019 at Trinity Lakes – admissions will attend • Courtesy - Continue to support for members who have are sick and shut-in, hospitalized, or have experienced a tragedy and/or death in the family with e-cards. • Young Alumni – no report given • OTHER NOTES: • Gate City Chapter accepted The Capital Campaign Challenge – created the Gate City Chapter National Alumni Endowed Scholarship • Ralisha Mercer – Office of Advancement – discussed Aggies Do Campaign – sponsor a National Alumni Scholar – go online to A&T Give Now to support Power of Do Campaign • Kevin Williamson – Assistant Vice Chancellor for Major Gifts and Annual Giving suggested ways to give to A&T (i.e. IRAs, trust funds, wills and real estate, etc) • Collected $130 from members for snacks for the Golf Tournament • Meeting adjourned – light refreshments served in banquet room • **minutes taken by Peggy Matier in Candace McCarty absence**

SEPTEMBER CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES • Gate City Alumni Chapter • September 17th, 2019 • Welcome to Visitors/New Members (Phyllis Moore) • Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting (Phyllis Moore) – June minutes will be presented at next chapter meeting • Treasurer’s Report (Samiya Smalls) - Motion was approved. Approved for information only. • President’s Updates (Phyllis Moore) - Life Time Member – VernellStallings - North Carolina A&T women’s bowling will host the first annual Vernell Stallings Women’s Bowling Invitational, Nov. 15-17 at AMF Lanes on 910 S. Holden Road in Greensboro, N.C. He is considered the Godfather of N.C. A&T bowling after being instrumental in starting the program and serving as the school’s first head coach. Congratulation to Mr. Stallings. The full article about Mr. Stallings and the Bowling invitational can be found on the A&T’s Athletic Website - Social Gathering - We asked earlier this year what are some things that you would like the chapter to do different.  One of the suggestions we received was to get together outside of chapter meeting and fundraising events - Meet Gate City Alumni for Jazz and Cocktails Featuring Tanya Ross & the O'Henry Trio at the O'Henry Hotel (624 Green Valley Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27408) on Thursday, September 19, 2019, 6:00pm until 9:00pm. For those who have not attended before this is a free event but you must get there early.  Tonya Ross has a huge following because she is an awesome artist. • Committee Reports • Finance (Anya Jackson)- Explanation of budget by Anya Jackson. Motion was approved. Approved for information only • Membership (Katina Richmond) - Presented Lifetime Membership, Be My Guest Program reviewed • Katina Richmond and the eBoard proposed to eliminate the Lifetime Membership category. Several suggestions were made to retain the Lifetime category: incentives for Lifetime members such as discounts to chapter events, alumni store discounts, special recognition, etc. Motion was made to remove Lifetime category and was not approved. Motion to keep the Lifetime category was approved. Katina Richmond will take the suggestions to the membership committee and report back at next chapter meeting • Fundraising (Reiko Taylor)- Proposal made for the 110th Anniversary fundraiser, motion made for chapter members to pay $110 (TBD) and a spring event. Proposal was voted on and approved update will be provided. Questions raised by chapter members were – what will $110 go towards within chapter? (scholarship or endowed scholarship). PayPal account will be setup for the $110 fundraiser • Social (Jonathan Brown) - Updates to the website such as more payment options for chapter members; a section to feature scholarship recipients. Members interested in a Gate City GHOE day party, more information to come. Next social event: Jazz and Cocktails Featuring Tanya Ross @ O’Henry Hotel – Thursday, Sept 19th 2019 - 6pm – 9pm. • Community Service (Sharon Lassiter) - Volunteers needed for Pathways Center, bring items needed to meetings on Tuesday nights for Aggie Source Food Pantry. • Scholarship (Tawana Cherry) - Reviewing changes to the scholarship application and process • Student Engagement & Recruitment (DedraEatmon) - Fall Open House on Saturday, September 28th - 10 AM To 2 PM. • Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter Training opened on September 4th 2019 and closes April 30th 2020. • Committee plans to execute activities and programs around four themes (1-Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter Training, 2-Summer New Student Send-Offs, 3-Aggie Student Alumni Association, 4-Hometown Organizations). • Courtesy (Helen Duncan)- Continue to support for members who have are sick and shut-in, hospitalized, or have experienced a tragedy and/or death in the family with e-cards. Community Service CommitteeSharon Lassiter Events • Fifth Sunday Day of Service • Sunday, September 30, 2019 • Cooked and served breakfast at Pathways Center (6 chapter members & 1 guest) - 7:30a.m.-9:45 a.m. • Served lunch at Potters House (5 chapter members) - 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. • The next Fifth Sunday Day of Service will be December 30th. • Aggie Source Food Pantry • Non-perishable items such as grits, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, salmon, shelf stable milk, pasta, spaghetti sauce • Personal items such as toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, etc. • Backpack Beginnings • Sunday, November 3, 2019 • 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. • 3707D Alliance Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407 • Activities include sorting canned goods, packing food boxes, assembling comfort backpacks, and sorting clothes • Sign up link-https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B48ADA92CA4F49-backpack
