  1. Effects on Dissolved Oxygen during Generation at Center Hill Dam Jared Durrett Undergraduate Biology Department Tennessee Technological University Cookeville, TN 38505

  2. Project Summary • Problem: Decreased Dissolved O2(DO) levels at Lake/River Dams • Objective: Ensure DO injection methods are sufficient to sustain life below the dam after generation • Method: Use DO meter to test above and below dam before, during, and after generation. • Expected Results: Decreased levels of DO below dam not suitable to sustain life

  3. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to conducts several DO tests yearly (2004) Results: DO was not suitable to sustain life below the dam Iwler, Louis. 1981. 4. To determine the dissolved oxygen count of Center Hill Lake/ Caney Fork River before, during, and after generation. The measures taken by the Corps of Engineers while, environmentally “in the right direction”, needs a stronger method of re-introducing O2 back into the water during and after generation. Objective/Hypothesis

  5. Methods and Materials • “Standard Methods 4500-0 Dissolved Oxygen Content” Method • Use of a DO meter capable of DO and Temperature read out

  6. Expected Results • DO to be in inadequate amounts below Center Hill Dam *Possible Benefits: Increased awareness and actions taken to change the DO at Dam sites.

  7. Project Timeline

  8. Budget • DO meter (Donated for this test) • Plastic tubes ($5.00) • Gas ($15.00) • Total: $20.00
