Read the four questions below and decide if they are testable, scientific questions. Write TESTABLE or NOT TESTABLE 1. Do plants grow more leaves with distilled water or with water from the sink? 2. What is the best independent reading book for me? 3. What is the meaning of life? 4. Do people lose more weight on a diet of salads or of chips and candy?

  2. Elite Eight Trait Check-Up • Respect the Threshold • Everyone on time? • Silent for First Five? • Be Prepared (2 min) • Seated • Have materials • Working on catalyst

  3. Class Motto If there is a problem,We look for a solution. If there is a better way,We find it. If we need help,We ask. If a teammate needs help,We give.

  4. Announcements • I will accept late GIZMO labs and LebronProjects • Star Quiz 4: Levels of Organization and Symbiosis • Periods 1, 2, 4, 6: Thursday • Periods 5, 7: Friday • Tutorial Today at 3:15! • SWIM SEASON BEGINS OCT 21!  Sign up outside my door if interested! 5. Science and Engineering Expo • Each student will conduct an experiment for Forest Park’s Science and Engineering Expo. • You may also invent a new product to solve an issue you see in your daily life.

  6. Believe it or not… • People are inventing and patenting their new ideas each and every day. • It all started with a problem

  7. Would you buy?

  24. Ask yourself these 5 questions…

  25. You be the Teacher! • Grade the following Science Expo research questions and hypotheses

  26. I can create several testable research questions for the Science/Engineering Expo

  27. Ms. Nay’s Science Expo Project • Setting: As a child, I had 2 pet bunnies. Their cages consisted of a litter box that had to be cleaned every other day. • Problem: I hated to clean out their cages using the plastic litter box. • Question: Would a disposable bunny litter box be more effective than the plastic type?

  28. Background Research • Background research: • Has something like this been invented before? • How many households have bunnies as pets? • Is it cost effective?

  29. Ms. Nay’sExperimental Design • Independent Variable: • Use of disposable or plastic litter box. • Dependent Variable: • Ease of cleaning out cage. • Preference of buyer.

  30. Things I had to consider/Keep constant • Type of animal being used
