GCE Group Approach • Avoid YAWP conditions(yet another white paper) • Identify exemplar projects as “Best Practices” and work with them: • user portals (Mississippi web portal, HotPage) • Application Area portals and PSE’s • Grid Application workflow management • Standards Development for GCE’s • how to use common/standard grid services, APIs, SDKs and Protocols • Software Toolkits for building Grid applications • Java and Perl CoGs, MyProxy, GridPort and GPDK • Grid/Industry standard interoperability • reference architecture(s) for GCE framework(s).

  4. Definitions • A GCE extends the users desktop by providing tools that access the Grid services. • Examples: • Portals: users, education – web, other • CACTUS, UNICORE, HotPage, LaunchPad, Mis. Web… • Workflow: systems to help manage large tasks involving multiple steps • Applications – Cactus • Collaborative Envs: WebDav, (a subset?) • Object frameworks: application composition tools • How do we consider: • Shell/env, NES: Network enable service (Ninf, Netsolve)

Action Items: • Finalize Charter: 4 week review, adopt ~11/18/00 • Choose examples of GCE’s that are web based portals and task leaders (done) • CACTUS/GPDK – Jason Novotny • UNICORE – Dietmar Erwin • HotPage/GridPort – Mary Thomas • LaunchPad – George Meyers • Mississippi Web Portals – Thomas Haupt • Identify Tasks and “Atomic Tasks” • How does each GCE do Files? Sec? Job submit? • Papers: • Informational, 1 page summaries of each by early January • TR or Grid Working Drafts: prelim at GGF1, final at July • Adopt the NLANR Clearinghouse project • Summary whitepaper – keep working on this
