  7. Big Picture Many miss the forest for the trees of God’s larger purpose. In creation, God creates humanity in his own image (a spirit image) for relationship and to rule over the earth on His behalf. Even after the sin of Adam and Eve, the promise is given to man that the seed of woman will crush the head of the serpent and heal the consequence of sin. This promised is traced through the genealogies. Through Adam, Noah, Shem/Hem/Japeth, Terah, Ishmael, Isaac, Esau, Jacob and Joseph. Their genealogies illustrate the fulfillment of God’s amazing promise. Israel ultimately settles in Egypt and makes good on the great nation promise. However, the nation fails to become a kingdom of priests in Ex. 19:6. This priesthood is ultimately fulfilled through the church of Christ as a royal priesthood to all nations. (1 Pet 2:9). Through the church, God’s purpose of creation detailed in Genesis 1-2 is finally accomplished as seen in Revelation 21-22 where the saved are reunited with Jesus Christ/God in heaven.
