  2. OPTION TWO PROGRAMS • College Courses • Internet Courses • Work/Internship • Community Service • Proof of Proficiency • Credit for courses completed prior to grade 9 • Summer School for Original Credit • Tutoring for Original Credit • Independent Study

College Courses • Grades 9-12 • Request to Counselor made by June 1st. • Will not count in GPA (however students can sit for Proficiency Test at completion of course). • In general, 5 credits will be earned for completing 2 college courses. • Credits to determine grade level promotion must be received by August 1st. • Students/parents responsible for tuition/transportation. • Students may be permitted an early release from the school day.

  4. General Internet Course Grades 9-12 Request to counselor by June 1st. Institution must be accredited. Guided learning (tests, projects, etc). Full year course = 5 credits 5 Internet credits maximum per year If course is not in LRHSD Program of Studies – will not count in GPA Equivalent to Prog. of Studies Items 1-6 from left apply. Student must have passed the GEPA in content area of Internet course. District assessment taken upon completion. Will count towards GPA. Internet Courses For example: Thomson Education Direct – www.educationdirect.com CompuHigh – www.compuhigh.com Florida Virtual School – www.flvs.net

Work/Internship(not intended to replace our present co-op programs) • Grades 11 and 12 only. • Request to Counselor made by June 1st. • Student/Parent must find placement. • 360 hours = 5 credits • Summer hours count. • Pass/Fail – will not count in GPA. • Weekly log signed by site supervisor and quarterly by School Counselor. • Working papers must be obtained. • Must be paid at least minimum wage. • Students may be permitted an early release from the school day.

  6. Community Service • Grades 9-12 • Request to Counselor made by June 1st. • Student/Parent must find project. • 180 hours = 5 credits • Pass/Fail – will not count in GPA. • Reflective journal and weekly log signed by site supervisor and quarterly by School Counselor • Students may participate every year but will only receive credit for 2 projects for a maximum of 10 credits. • Students may not receive wages for participation. • Students may be permitted an early release from the school day.

  7. Proof of Proficiency • Grades 9 – 12 • Written request from parent by 6/1 • Must have passed the GEPA • Complete assessment by July 15 • Must earn 80+ to pass • May only sit for the test once • Course Title and A or B will show on transcript • Does count in GPA
