  1. Standard 3 • Candidates who complete the program are educational leaders who have the knowledge and ability to promote the success of all students by ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.

  11. HR “Tricks of the Trade” • Principal for a day. • Frequent Visibility of Administration. • Mentor Teachers • Teacher Rounds

  12. Article Analysis • Silently read over the given article. With this question in mind…What criteria do you as an administrator scrutinize in order to make an operational decision?

  13. Discussion-Based on Article • You had a highly qualified high school teacher in a prestigious community. The teacher was cited for a DUI. She resigned for the remainder of the school year and served her 90 day sentence. She has reapplied to teach in the district. What do you do?

  14. Now it’s your turn….. • You have 5 minutes to work with your group on a given operational problem. • Your task is to develop a plan of action based on the problem. You are the administrator. What will you do?

  15. 1st Scenario • The 8th graders at your middle school have been accustomed to attending the Chattanooga Aquarium for the past 5 years. However, the gas prices are rising. What is your choice of action for these 8th graders?

  16. Possible Solution • The average price for a gallon of gas in the United States has surpassed the $3.00 mark and is currently at $3.07 per gallon. • With the GA aquarium offering the same educational experience as the Chattanooga aquarium why not cut the cost and visit the one in town?

  17. 2nd Scenario • There is breaking news….A shooting has occurred in the vicinity of your school. You have not had a chance to conduct a code red drill and there are several new teachers in the building. What measures do you follow at this point?

  18. Possible Solution • It is the administrators responsibility to notify the staff of the situation. You can… • Send personnel to notify staff. • All-call an email/code red. • Ensure a pre-planning review of codes. • Do you have any suggestions? • Example: Brian Nichols

  19. 3rd Scenario • Parents have been informed of your school’s pick-up procedures for car riders. However, you continue to struggle with parents parking their vehicles in the bus loading zone. All calls have been made for the cars to be removed and it is time for dismissal. The cars are still there, what do you do?

  20. Possible Solution • Buses effected by cars will be directed to a new loading spot designated by the administrator. • Assign extra personnel to previous loading spot. They will redirect the students.
