  2. Requirements to be Plantae • Multicellular • Thick cell walls made of cellulose • Eukaryotic • Means you have a nucleus • Autotroph • Makes its own food

  3. Examples • Coniferophyta • Conifers Gymnosperms; reproduce with seeds produced in cones. Usually evergreen. • Eg. Pine trees • Ginkgophyta • Ginkgo biloba Only species in a phylum, a tree often planted in urban environments. Gymnosperm; reproduces with seeds that hang from branches. • Eg. Ginkgo Trees

  5. Examples Ctd. • Pterophyta • Ferns, whisk ferns, and horsetails Seedless vascular plants. Most have fringed leaves • Eg. Ferns • Bryophyta • Mosses Nonvascular plants. Gametophyte generation is a glasslike plant. Most live in moist environments • Eg. Sphagnum (peat) moss

  6. Peat Moss Ferns

  7. How are plants the most amazing living things to ever be living in the History of the Entire Planet… Ever. • They produce oxygen • They are the only organisms that can make food from sunlight. • We eat them, and without Plantae we would have nothing to consume. • Even if we ate animals the animals would still need to eat some type of plant before we got to them. • Q.E.D. Without plants we would all die.
