  5. Classic Data Storage Issue • ERP Data (Lawson) is designed to capture transactions and not pull data out.

  6. Historical Data Crosses Rows • For Example HRHISTORY (subset) • Must read multiple rows/records of data to get a value.

  7. How to solve the problem? • There are two primary ways to solve the issue.

  8. 1. Put Lipstick on the Pig A. Write complex reports on the tables that try and read the multiple rows of data. B. Use Add-ins and other tools that try and mask the issue, but can’t operate on the data efficiently, because it has to look at so much data to find the answer.

  12. Why is it needed? • Lawson data is undocumented and complex • Many tables to join to get simple reports • At least a half dozen joins to get a basic report. • Organizational hierarchy is difficult • Chart hierarchy is difficult • Difficult to compare across years/periods
