  1. Research Paper Preparing the Rough Draft

  2. Introduction • Remember to interest your reader!!! • First sentence should be some type of hook. • Give background on why the issue is controversial / dangerous / positive, etc. • State your position • Thesis is LAST sentence of your introduction!!! • Remember go from broad statements to specific statements here!!

  3. Body • Follow your outline subtopics (three main points) • Discuss these points with your supporting details • Incorporate AT LEAST two direct quotes and remember to use a citation at the end of the paragraph for any borrowed information.

  4. Conclusion • Go from specific statements to broad statements • Your first sentence should be some type of restated thesis. • Your subsequent sentences should EXPLAIN WHY YOUR INFORMATION IS IMPORTANT – DO NOT JUST SUMMARIZE YOUR MAIN POINTS!!! • End with a broad statement to make your reader think about your topic!!!! • Remember that by the end of your paper, you should have PROVEN something!!!

  5. Works Cited • You need AT LEAST three documented sources on your Works Cited page from NoodleTools. • Please ensure that EVERY source you document in your Works Cited appears in your paper. Indicate this by using an in-text citation for direct quotes and paraphrases.

  6. Checklist • You may refer to the research packet linked on my RV website to find any information on direct quotes, paraphrasing, citing and REVISING. • There is a very helpful revision checklist in the packet.

  7. Due Date/Requirements • Please have your rough draft prepared by Wednesday, May 12th. • Attach your Works Cited page to your rough draft. • Remember to use size 12 font, double-space and include a heading. • Please include a header and page number on each page.
