  25. Outstanding Contributions to theater

  26. his award is to honor outstanding members to our organization. Each major division may have one recipient. The nomination of members should be based upon their service to the organization and field. The hope that this award will help shine a light on our many supporters and workers who work tirelessly to benefit the arts and MTA.This year’s Outstanding Contributions to Theatre in the Secondary Division goes to Sandra Camphor. Sandra Camphor is a Greenville native who graduated from Delta State University. While living in Greenville, has been a journalist, a DJ and a TV production tech. She was a long-time director/actress with Delta Center Stage in her hometown. She began teaching in a local elementary school in 1988 and started a drama program at Simmons High School in Hollandale. She moved to Ocean Springs in 1995 and officially started the OSHS theatre program in 1996. The four-year program had Hundreds of students have come through the program including a number of them who have become theatre teachers themselves. Camphor has directed 50+ shows at OSHS including festival shows. She has lead the program to 3 MTA wins and gone to SETC. The program has is diverse with plays such festival shows as "Tartuffe," "The Serpent," "The House of Bernarda Alba." The spring shows include "Our Town," and "Into the Woods." "Ralph Roister Doister" was her last production before retiring in December 2015.
