Not winning anything means you lost $1 for playing the game. If the cost to play the game is $1, what are the player’s expected winnings? (A)Lose $0.08 (B) Lose $0.25 (C) Win $0.08 (D) Win $0.25 (E) Win $0.75 Include the loss of $1 in the winnings OR Calculate chance of 3(1/6) - 0.5(1/6) – 1 (4/6) = -$0.25 winning then subtract $1 4(1/6) + 0.5(1/6) + 0 (4/6) = 0.75 -$1 + 0.75 (return) = -$0.25
