  2. Wind Formation • Temperature differences on Earth’s surface are caused by: • Tilt of Earth • It’s orbit around the sun • Earth’s curved surface

  3. Coriolis Effect • Rotation of the Earth deflects air and water to the right (north of the equator), and left (south of the equator). • Earth rotates toward the east, thus creating distinct wind pattern.

  4. Wind is movement of air from an area of high pressure to low pressure • Warm air comes from equator • Cold air comes from poles

  5. Land Breeze • Breeze moves from land to sea • Occurs at night • Cold air over land sinks and pushes warm air out to sea

  6. Sea Breeze • Breeze moves from sea to land • Occurs in the daytime • Cool air from sea moves toward land and forces warm air over land to rise
