  2. F/A-18 CVRS-FLIR-BDA MOD PROTOTYPE • PROS • Increases current capabilities of the Left (Fwd) CVRS Recorder from 2 recording options (LDDI and HUD) to 3 options (LDDI, HUD and FLIR). • Dual recording of FLIR provides redundancy for FLIR BDA. • Eliminates problems experienced with current DDI/Camera configuration (Glare, Poor Lighting, Camera Alignment, DDI Failure, Etc.). • Auto-HUD override switch added to allow the pilot to select whether the the HUD will override the LDDI or HUD during weapon release functions. • Easy assembly, 90% of the work should be able to be done right in the work center (Mod could be in a kit form for the fleet, just pop it in). • Mod would be easy to remove, for temporary testing/installs. • Should be easy to get flight clearance, judging from what was previously recommended (pulling windscreens and cheek panels). • Minimal Cost. • CONS • The raw Black/White FLIR video may not really gain much for quality. • Need an old monitor or scan rate converter to view the video with the current playback station configuration.

Remove splice (S002) and reconnect wires to only connect 79P-L042A pins 26/28 to 52P-H320 pins 7/6 respectfully. • Install the new DP/DT/3POS switch and rewire panel (79S-H053), similar to 770-300 WP14 02, Pg 7. • Factory Installed CVRS (Lot 17 and Up) aircraft will require the Blue Wire (52P-H320 Pin 7 to 79P-L042A Pin 26) to be installed. All other aircraft have the required wiring in place. • HUD MODE SWITCH (SHOWN IN RED) • Allows pilot to select either Auto-HUD or O/R-HUD. • AUTO provides the common functionality to allow the HUD to automatically record vice the selected LDDI or FLIR, during weapon release functions. • ORIDE allows the pilot to disable the the Auto-HUD function and force the recorder to record the selected feature (LDDI and FLIR), during weapon release functions. • Reuse the old Video Select Switch (DP/ST/2POS) from above.
