    1. Checks and Balances The framers of the Constitution, separated the government into three branches to limit the power of the government. They were the Legislative (Congress), the Executive (president) and Judicial (Supreme and Federal Courts) Branches Each branch has duties to carry out, but they also are responsible for “checking” other branches.

    2. Checks and Balances Checks and Balances - safeguards against abusive power and each branch has the power to limit (check) the actions of the other two. This guarantees no one branch will become to powerful.
