Elements of the definition • Study (systematic obsevation, data collection) • Distribution (people, place, time, …) • Determinants (Does X cause Y?) • Health related behaviour or states (scope) • Specified populations (population at risk to population under study, sample) • Application to prevention, and control (Public health: prevention, promotion, recovery)

  4. Three core ideas of Epidemiology • Disease or any health state do not occur at random; there is a pattern behind the occurrence • Population is at the core of Epidemiology; all inferences and decisions must reflect
