  1. Parsley By: Khunal Parkash, Hannah Windham, Chance Polan, Anna Claire Terrill` MR Martell 6th period science

  2. Introduction to The Question Which parsley herb will grow taller, Light or Dark? We think that the plant that is in the light will grow taller because the plant needs sunlight to go through photosynthesis. We will be covering the question and facts about the herb. And what the effects of light and dark can be on the plant.

  3. Background flower • The scientific name for parsley is: Petroselinum crispum • Photosynthesis releases oxygen from the plant leaves stem

  4. About Parsley The function of Apiol and Myristican is to be an insecticide. The function of an insecticide is to repel predators This organic compound is an adaptation, because it helps it survive. Common uses for this herb are food, and medicines. The Romans were the first to use parsley They used it for flavoring for food. Then Parsley spread to America in the 17th century. Now it is the most used culinary herb worldwide

  5. General Information Parsley Is used in medicines to calm spasms and other things that harm your nervous system. It is also used in insecticide and cooking.

  6. Photosynthesis The function of photosynthesis is to create sugar, the plants food, for the plant. The chemical reaction that occurs is that water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide reacts to each other to create sugar for the plants. The chloroplasts are the organelle that are responsible for causing

  7. The 3 factors in photosynthesis Sunlight is a factor in a plants growth because it let the plant go into photosynthesis and produce food and without food they cannot grow. Water because of the fact that water is a main ingredient in photosynthesis and without it like sunlight the plant cannot grow. And last but not least is carbon dioxide, a plant’s oxygen and also something that’s required to go through photosynthesis.

  8. Procedures • We first choose our seeds. • Then we planted our seeds in the cups of mulch. • Then we put the plants in under light or dark. • Then we watered the plants. • Then we decided who would water the plants. • Then we watered each day and recorded their height each day.

  9. How our plant grew • Our plant that actually was in the light grew up and our plant that was in the dark dropped a little. So our light plant was showing positive tropisms and our dark plant was showing negative tropisms. • Both of the plants roots grew into the soil, this process is called positive geotropisms. • The most unusual thing was that our plant in the dark stem turned clear.

  10. Conclusion • Our results concluded that the plant in the light would last longer and grow faster also would grow taller. • The results did support our hypothesis being that the plant in the light grew faster and taller. • One thing that our group thought of that could make the investigation better was, having someone monitor the plants and measure them over the weekends, and days that we don’t have science.

  11. Bibliography • Where we got most of our information is from the website: • http://m7science.wikispaces.com/ • We also got help from Mr. Martell and from our journals for some of our information.
