  4. An earthquake's point of initial reputure is located in the depth of the earth and is called its focus or hypocenter. The epicenter is the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter.

The most frequently places that earthquakes appear: • coal mines • mountain caves (Sudety Mountains, Krakowsko-Częstochowska Upland) Large earthquakes in the area of Poland occured about 150-200 mln years ago.

  6. The last earthquake took place in 2001 in Bełchatów. It was of magnitude 4,7 on Richter scale. This earthquake didn't cause any serious damage, furniture and floors were shaking, walls cracked in several buildings. Silesia is the place in Poland where earthquakes occur most frequently and some of them are almost magnitude 4.

  7. In Poland there are two main areas where the earthquakes occur: • Góry Kaczawskie, Przedgórze Sudeckie, Nizina Śląska, • Wał Trzebnicki i Nizina Wielkopolska wzdłuż linii Jelenia Góra-Leszno - Kotlina Oświęcimska, Wyżyna Śląska i Wyżyna Krakowsko-Częstochowska wzdłuż linii Oświęcim-Herb
