The Beck Depression Inventory The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI; Beck et al., 1979 for the revised version) is a clinically derived self-assessment scale used to measure the degree of state depression. The original form is 21 items (Beck et al., 1971), and the revised form is 13 items. Contributor © POSbase 2005
The Beck Depression Inventory The BDI did not develop from any particular theory, but was derived from clinical observations of symptoms and attitudes such as mood, lack of satisfaction and social withdrawal. A meta-analysis of studies involving the BDI over 25-years showed that the BDI has reasonable psychometric properties (Beck et al., 1988). © POSbase 2005
