Resolution 2003-7 Highlights Academic units should: • Develop plan to define roles and contributions of fixed-term faculty • Make fixed term appointments with same consultation as with tenure-track positions • Create Senior Lecturer rank • Develop criteria for initial appointment to and progression through ranks and essentially along same timeline as progression through tenure-track ranks • Include fixed-term faculty in appropriate school and departmental decision-making, except as related to tenure track decisions • Ensure fixed-term faculty are included in development activities and considered for relevant awards

Resolution 2006-6 Requests Provost • Remind deans & department chairs of terms of Resolution 2003-7 • Review extent to which departments and schools have implemented terms of Resolution 2003-7 Requests Committee • Develop & disseminate “best practices” related to fixed-term faculty (best practices developed in 2009)

  6. Monitor Implementation Reviewed posting of hiring and promotion policies on Provost’s website. • All now complete Surveyed department heads concerning implementation of resolution points and best practices • Many departments follow adopted policies and best practices most of the time

Fixed-Term Faculty Events 1996 – Fixed-Term Faculty first vote in faculty-wide elections 2005 – Council Committee on Fixed-Term Faculty created 1995 – Fixed-Term Faculty received voting privileges in faculty-wide elections 2011- Senior Lecturers in College of Arts & Sciences receive 5-year appointments. Fixed-Term faculty member is candidate for Faculty Chair 2004 – Faculty Council approved new Senior Lecturer title
