What’s an App? • Mobile application is software designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. • “app phones”, not just smartphones • Available through application distribution platforms, which are typically operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the • Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry App World • Some apps are free, while others have a price. • Apple - App Store has 650,000 available apps to download as well as "an astounding 30 billion apps" downloaded from the app store, Tim Cook 2012 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_app

  3. iPad vs. iPhone • Some apps work better on the iPad or the iPhone (and vice versa).  I am not sure of the cross-functionality with the Droid system, since everything I am using is Mac iOS, except my laptop computer.
