  3. I’m so excited to begin this school year! This will be my sixth year teaching, and I’ve been lucky enough to be at East Side from the start. In my free time I enjoy running, re-doing old furniture, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Meet Miss Casey

  4. Communication • Weekly Newsletter • Monday Folders • Planners • Phone Email We are partners in your child’s education. It is imperative we have open communication. Please feel free to contact me about anything concerning your child.

  5. Newsletter • Every Monday a newsletter will be posted on the websiteand you will receive an email to let you know when it’s up. • Quick bits of info will also be sent out as a newsflash. • Be sure to sign up this weekend!

  6. Curriculum • Morning Work • Reading, Writing, and Math Workshop • Science and Social Studies

  7. Interactive Notebooks • Daily work will be in notebooks • Used as a study guide • CANNOT be left at home!!!

  9. Homework I will look at all homework, but I will not return homework unless there is an area of concern. Reading Log- Read 20 minutes nightly, record, parent signature Math Facts- PRACTICE NIGHTLY

  10. Journal Home • Every Friday your child will write a letter to you about what we have done in school all week. Please take the time to respond to them in their notebook. • The kids get so excited to read their letters from you all!

  11. Specials • We are on an eight day rotation. Check your child’s planner to find out the specials for the week. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for PE. • Want to accompany our class to Science Lab? Please sign up!

  12. Class Rules As a class we brainstormed all the rules we needed to follow in order to have a successful learning environment. Be Respectful and Be Responsible The kids wanted to refer to these as “The 2 Rsfor Rock Stars”

  13. Class Mission Statement We did a carousel activity to help us come up with a class mission statement. I was so IMPRESSED with the students take on our purpose for being here. “In our classroom we will learn by working hard, taking our time, concentrating and always doing our best. By doing this and following rules we will be on track to attend college, get a great job, and live an amazing life.”

  14. Whole Class Rewards Our class will be working together to earn fans (since we’re rock stars). When we earn 20 fans our class will earn a Grammy, and we will have a Grammy celebration.

  15. Rock Star of the Week • Monday- Sharing Sack, Photos, Poster • Tuesday- Favorite Book • Wednesday- Parent Letter • Thursday- Lunch Buddy • Friday- Rock Star Recognition

  16. Lunch • 11:54 – 12:24 • Please sit at the parent or overflow table • Just your child, no friends • Please meet your child in the lunchroom and say good bye to them there • Please send a HEALTHY snack for your child

  17. Birthdays • 22 students • Send any treat in the morning with your child or contact me prior • Summer birthdays can be celebrated on half birthdays • Invitations are only allowed to be passed out if EVERY student in the class is invited. I cannot allow students to pass out invitations to kids in other rooms.

  18. Drop Off Only drop students off under the overhang. Students are unsupervised if dropped off before 7:20. With the construction situation everyone is urged to take the buses!

  19. Dismissal Please be sure to send a note to change your child’s dismissal. Phone calls and emails will not be accepted. Students being signed out early must be signed out by 2:00 With the construction situation everyone is urged to take the buses!

  20. Parking • Park at the church during school hours (near soccer field) • In our parking lot go all the way around (like before). Do not go straight. • New parking lot should be complete by Oct. 1 • Ribbon cutting ceremony for building on Oct. 6

  21. Extracurricular Activities Please give me copies of schedules. I try to attend at least one event per child.
