  3. What is Development..? An improvement in a number of characteristics of a country. Development can suggest economic, demographic, social, political and even cultural changes.

  6. How can we measure development? BUT – this is only an economic indicator... Ca we measure using all the other elements of development? There are many ways to measure development. The most common are: GDP (Gross Domestic Product) – The total value of all finished goods and services produced by a country in a year. GNP (Gross National Product) - The total value of all finished goods and services produced by a country in a year plus all net income that the country has earned overseas. Expressed in $.

  7. The Human Development Index (HDI) Statistic used to rank countries in order of development.

  8. HDI • HDI takes into account, GDP, life expectancy , adult literacy, enrolment in education at all levels. • A measure of 1.0 developed. • Under 0.5 low levels of development. • Perfect surely?
