  3. Fisheries Information and Fishing Data • Locational Data for Fishing Activities • Identify Important Areas • Marine Planning Process • Fishing Effort Data (CPUE) • Marine and Spatial Planning? • Fisheries Management Indicator • Fish Stock Data (Biological Indicators) • Combine for Fisheries Management Use • Fishing and the Environment • Natural, Economic, Cultural

  4. Fisheries Information and Fishing Data • IFGs and Fisheries Data Collection • Where Activities are Undertaken? • Marine Planning Function/Spatial Management • What Impact on Fish Stocks/Environment? • Fisheries Management Use • IFGs Standardised Reporting System? • Comparability Between IFG Areas • National Perspective (6 – 12nm?) • IFGs to Decide Practicalities and Scope

  8. Spatial Data • Data is collected in 5x5nm squares • Allows assessment of the distribution of fishing effort and other metrics

  9. Stock Assessments • Data feeds into stock assessments which inform local management decision making

  10. Fisheries Management Tool • Integrating stock assessment outputs, biological data and fisheries data • Map based interface for fisheries managers • Can be integrated with other spatial data including Marine Spatial Plan

  11. Map based interface

  12. Practical applications of spatial data

  13. Data Ownership • Ownership of the data remains with the fishermen and the SSMO • Access is restricted • Data can only be released once the relevant permissions have been sought and an appropriate format agreed

  14. Fisheries Information and Fishing Data • IFGs Data Gathering • All Options are Open – Views? • Standardised (Baseline) National System • IFGs Free to Collect Additional Information • IFG Pilot Trials • Data Gathering and Use in Management?
