  2. Tourism services Sector • There are several areas that make up this sector: • Government • Industry associations • Marketing Services • Research • Retail

Government • Provincial government provides money, information, and services to encourage tourism industry. • The government plays an active role in promoting Canada and its provinces and territories as a tourist destination. • They conduct research and prepare policies [ building a new airport, expanding a park, levying a hotel tax all impact on one or all of the tourism sectors.]

  4. Industry Associations • Some associations may focus on marketing such as Tourism Cape Breton.

  5. Other association a focus on tourism education, training and professional development of those working in the industry. There are also those that address industry concerns and make sure the industry is being treated fairly, though lobbying and advocacy.

  6. Market Services • Marketing is of primary importance to tourism and many organizations have specialized marketing staff and services. • Most major cities promote tourism through conventions and visitor’s bureaus. • Due to the amount of competition , consumers have a large variety of products and services from which to choose.

  7. Research • Research and consulting services see how the tourism industry is doing and how it could do even better. • They analyze how much money the industry is generating. • They find out how many jobs the industry is providing. • They also try to find out what tourists are looking for in a vacation and how best to provide it for them.

  8. Retail • Retail businesses that benefit from tourism revenue are also part of the tourist services sector. • Travelers who shop for socks they forgot at home or who get a hair cut while traveling contribute to the economy.

  9. Job Opportunities • Operations- Information Counselor • Supervisory- Tourism market researcher • Management- Reservation services manager • Executive- Minister of Tourism
