  1. Murder? In the Owl’s Nest?

  2. Evidence • Body • Blood • Red Fabric • Possible Evidence • Red stains • Paper ball • Glass/plastic shard

  3. Packaging • Body- the medical examiner would have collected the body • Blood- a swab would have been taken, then put into a paper bag • Dry blood on clothes- would go with the body • Red Fabric- paper bag • Stains- swab and put into paper bag or collect entire tiles if needed • Paper - manila envelope • Shard- solid container

  4. Controls • Blood on the deceased’s hands and clothes -Victim’s blood • Red fabric • Other fabrics found in the room • Stains • Any blood and paint found in room • Shard • Would have taken a sample of any other plastic or glass items in the room had there been any found

  5. Tests • DNA test on blood and evidence later found on body • See if blood on clothes matches the victim’s • If not, run against possible suspects Compare fabric found with fabrics in the room • No match- compare with fabrics found that relate to suspects. Ex: clothing, bags, rugs, etc. • Look closer for DNA or other transfers on fabric

  6. Tests • Stains • Test for composition and if possible, how long it had been there • If recent blood, compare to victim’s and possible suspects • If recent paint, see if it matches the paint in the area • If not, compare with paint elsewhere

  7. Possible Tests • Shard • Identify • Dust for prints Paper • analyze and dust for prints, if relevant

  8. Hypothesis The lack of money in the partly opened cash register suggests that the perpetrator's initial intention may have been robbery. The blood found on the victim’s hands and clothes suggests that he tried to fight the perpetrator off. The only other positive blood found was a pool around the victim’s head, which suggests that he obtained the injury falling or being pushed to the ground or from being hit with an unknown object.
