Objectives for the class: To prepare students to demonstrate their level of Spanish proficiency across three communicative modes : • Interactive communication • Interpretive and • Presentational • AP Spanish Language is intended for students who wish to develop proficiency and integrate their language skills, using authentic materials and sources.

  3. How will the class reach the objectives… • Exposing students to a variety of …. current topics, • 1. Human Rights and Immigration/emigration • 2. International trade and commerce • 3. Healthcare • 4. Family/Friends, relationships and conflicts • 5. Climate/Environment • 6. Politics and current events • 7. Fantasy vs. reality • 8. Technology • broad regional variations and • using authentic sources in Spanish.

  4. What the AP exam measures.. On the following pages you will see screen shots of the remaining slides in this power point lesson (slides 4 – 47). • the exam is equivalent to the performance of students who have completed three years (five or six semesters) of college.

  5. T h e E x a m • It measures the students’ ability to write and speak with ease in correct and idiomatic Spanish in Interpersonal and Presentational modes. The class is conducted100% in Spanish. • The test is on May 7th

Grading Progress reports will only go home if student is at risk or failing. • Quarter 1   October 10, 2012 • Quarter 2   December 19, 2012 • Quarter 3   March 6, 2013 • Quarter 4   April 17, 2013 Grades are based on the following criteria… • Performance:Exams/Quizzes/ projects/ 70% • Participation 15% • Homework/Efford15%

  7. Letter Grades • A+ (99) 97-100 C+ (78) 77-79 • A (95) 93-96 C (75) 73-76 • A- (91) 90-92 C- (71) 70-72 • B+ (88) 87-89 D+ (68) 67-69 • B (85) 83-86 D (65) 65-66 • B- (81) 80-82 • F numerical grade below 65

  8. Comments in progress reports • Good understanding of concepts/Keep up the good work = B range • Working satisfactorily = C to C+ range • Quality of work inconsistent = jumps from good to bad grades • In danger of failing = C- or lower grade • Currently failing = current grade is 64 or lower • Not working to full potential = has the ability but is not showing the effort • Work missing = did not hand in a graded assignment
