Reading • We consistently measure students’ reading levels throughout the year. • We will have a balanced literacy program throughout the year that includes both guided reading and independent reading. • Teachers will read aloud to the class and incorporate various reading and writing activities. Students will be responding to the literature in a variety of ways.

  14. Writing • Writing is a big focus in 4th grade. • Students will learn how to enhance their writing by utilizing the six traits of writing: • Ideas • Organization • Voice • Sentence Fluency • Word Choice • Conventions.

Homework • The reading logs, spelling menu, and math facts should be considered daily practice. • Additional homework will be given as needed to reinforce skills being taught in the classroom. • Homework should always be copied into the planner so that no assignments are forgotten! • Unless noted in the planner, homework assigned is due the next day.

School Celebrations • TISD allows three classroom celebrations during the school year. • October 25- Walk-A-Thon and Field Day • December 20 – Winter Party • February 13 – Valentine Card Exchange Party • February 22- Carnival at the Pointe • June 3 – End of Year Party • The homeroom parent will coordinate these events with the help of volunteers, and we welcome all parents to join in the fun!

Antes de despedirnos… • Asegúrese de que suhijo(a) lea todos los díascomomínimopor 20 minutos y practiquelastablas de multiplicar. • Los niños pueden llevarse a la casa todos los libros que pertenecen a la maestra. • Visite la biblioteca pública. • Mantenga el contacto y hágame saber de las dificultades, pero también de los logros y las razones para celebrar.
