Jesus said so! • “If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matt 6:14-15, ESV). • “Then Peter came up and said to him, ‘Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven’ ” (Matt 18:21-22, ESV).

Remember all that Joseph endured: • Sold as a slave by his own brothers. • Tempted by by Potiphar’s wife. • Thrown into prison. • Forgotten by cupbearer.
Joseph honored God. • Gen 42:18-20. • Fearing God means that we honor him. • How can honoring God help us forgive?
Joseph loved his brothers. • “He turned away from them and wept” (Gen 42:24, ESV). • “Then Joseph hurried out, for his compassion grew warm for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and wept there” (Gen 43:30, ESV). • What is true love? • How did God love us? • How would loving my brother help me forgive him?
