Alternate Assessment Change • The US Dept of Ed denied Ohio’s request to continue to offer district’s waivers to count more than 1% of Alternate Assessments in their test results. • In previous years, Akron had up to 3.4% of all tests counted as Alternate Assessments. • This year, we were only allowed to count 1% as proficient • Scores not counted are “demoted” to basic (602 scores were demoted from proficient to basic)

  17. Announcement of Significant Testing Change • Due to budget constraints, ODE eliminated the following tests for 2009-2010 and 2010-2011: • 4th grade Writing • 7th grade Writing • 5th grade Social Studies • 8th grade Social Studies

  18. Focus Areas • PreK-2 Literacy + Enhanced Supports for 3rd-5th Grades, Particularly 5th Grade: 3rd & 4th grade reading relatively flat + 5th grade reading declined • Middle School Climate: purpose is to positively impact all academic areas • High School Rigor & Relevance: 6 out of 10 grades & subjects increased from last year. Continue to enhance rigor and relevance.
